TONKIN TROPICAL COFFEE

We started at first with a simple idea, to harvest healthy beans free from harmful chemicals, that farmers are proud to grow, and consumers are excited to buy.

Why Premium Arabica Coffee?

Many people don’t know that Vietnam is the second largest coffee exporter in the world after Brazil, but we hardly make a name for ourselves in global market because most of our coffee production is Robusta. Tonkin believes we can share a hand to help changing that perception.

“Tonkin Tropical Coffee was born at the mist of overwhelming

brands and labels fighting for a spot in this today market.”

At the beginning of 2017, Tonkin launched an inclusive project to produce high-quality Arabica coffee called Tonkin Tropical Coffee, proudly made in Vietnam, where the farmers take great care and devotion to their trees, where the coffee beans are carefully selected, picked, whose quality will go beyond highly-set standards internationally. This project supports smallholder farmers associations to increase productivity and improve the quality of the coffee.

SOURCE & LOCATION

Da Lat is acknowledged as the best Arabica – growing area in Vietnam

Situated in Langbian mountains, one among many thousand-year-of-age volcanic mountains, hills and plateaus of Central Highlands, Xuan Truong and Tram Hanh are dominated as Vietnam’s best origin for arabica coffee, at 1600masl and enjoys a sub-tropical, moderate year round and foggy weather. Its arabica coffee is beloved by local coffee drinkers and other customers across the region.

HARVEST & PROCESSING

QUALITY CONTROL

The farmers grow the trees throughout the eight month wet season with compost fertilizer, before harvesting by hands takes place in October, November. The Arabica trees are cultivated with ripe cherries are selected consciously and then the wet processing method is used to ensure the highest quality of beans. After harvest, coffee cherries are brought immediately to processing house near by for fermentation to prevent long waiting time that might a ect the quality of the beans.

Tonkin implements a full wash process, starting with de-pulping machine to remove the cherry’s skin, followed by a cycle of washing – fermenting – washing again to remove the mucilage. The parchment is dried on drying beds until the bean inside reaches 12% moisture content. Tonkin’s technicians monitored this process thoroughly to ensure high quality coffee.

FLAVOR PROFILE

This milestone is significant for us when we share a hand with local farmers from Tram Hanh & Xuan Truong village in Da Lat City to produce premium Catimor coffee beans. This variety was imported to Vietnam in 1984 from Cuba, after that it came from the Research Center for Varieties Against Rust of Portugal In 1990.

Tropical green coffee beans by Tonkin have already been cupped by US commercial and specialty roasters that noticed that this coffee is clean, aromatic, and flavorful. Tonkin’s Tropical beans work wonders for blends or can be used as a single origin, estate, special & limited editions, or even as a reserve coffee.
